While I can't say how they compare to the hardware units, there is a real cool character to these on the master chain. I have also demoed the Manley Massive and MU limiter. The 2500 is similar to the waves take, but I find it handles the really punchy compression better. Although it is really personal preference (and there are a lot of great emulations to choose from), I think UAD captured the essence of these hardware units the best. I also love the API vision channel strip, API 2500, and Never 31102. It doesn't really 'attack' the top end like other plugins do. Compared to the industry staples like iZotope's RX, I find it much better suited to vocals. I find it to be the most intuitive and musically enhancing de-noise on the market. I must say I love their C-suite C-vox plugin. The 3+1 bundle is great when they give some $50 or $25 coupons. When looking to purchase plugins, make sure you buy them around the summer/winter sales. I made this thread while once again looking on the used market because I can't justify buying a brand new item to get Auto Tune - an actually expensive, 299$ plugin that I simply don't need.įor the most part, I take advantage of the legacy stuff included in the heritage bundle.

So why doesn't UAD simply go "buy this unit and get X worth of plugins"? Why don't we get a fixed value to spend, or a gift card with each unit? I don't need 5 plugins, I'd happily get one I really need instead, and I know I'm not the only one. That lead me to go and buy second hand, because even though the price difference wasn't much, the plugins didn't justify the extra 180 bucks since I knew I'd never use them. That has been the case for the last unit I bought, the TB3 Solo, and it is the case with the unit I'm after now. At this moment you can get Auto tune,Time Cube Delay, Century tube channel strip etc.īut here's what I never understood about these promos: What if I don't care for a single one of these plugins? What if they don't they apply to anything I do? So we're all aware of the regular promos that UAD have to go with the hardware you buy.

If anyone has already, or ever has the time to compare the specific performance of the Waves UAD and Logic Pro emulations against each other with a spectrometer showing the harmonic response of each, I would be really interested to hear about it. This kind of compressor doesn’t color the sound as much as the other models, so it is ideal when you want your compression to go unnoticed. VCA – As well as being a fast compressor, the VCA model is also cleaner and more transparent. It works really well for parallel compression since it’s always pumping away in the background, not just when the signal reaches the threshold. It is a little slower on the attack, and doesn’t react as quickly to the audio signal. Opto – This is emulating the LA2A, optical compressor.

Each of those developers have worked really hard to emulate the best characteristics of these coveted units, and they work really well. There are a lot of expensive plugin emulations that you can buy from Waves, UAD, or other plugin developers to recreate the classic sound of the beloved 1176, and LA2A compressor units.
